A typical UPS installed in a controlled environment such as a server room or office is not likely to be exposed to temperature variations, severe power disruption or airborne contaminants. Since the temperature range is limited to 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F), an office-grade UPS that uses generic 3-5 year life VRLA batteries is sufficient. This is considered a cost-effective solution for general applications that simply need a few minutes of battery backup (runtime) for workstations.
What if the environment is not ideal?
Falcon SSG and SSG-RP Industrial UPSs are not office-grade products. They are built to handle much more and are ideal for industrial environments. Industrial environments are typically found in warehouse, production or manufacturing facilities that expose equipment to wide operating temperature, unstable power conditions and airborne contaminants.
Temperature is the leading factor for most of our applications. As mentioned, the typical temperature range of a generic UPS is 0°C to 40°C. Falcon SSG and SSG-RP industrial products offer -20°C to 55°C and -30°C to 65°C, thereby protecting critical control / processing equipment that require UPSs with a wide operating temperature range.
Power conditions can be affected by heavy machinery and electrical equipment causing sags, swells, or transients. These conditions are protected by our industrial UPSs’ wide voltage window and transient protection. The double conversion online UPS topology eliminates these power disruptions and provides clean power to the load.
Airborne contaminants such as dirt and debris are often part of an industrial environment. For these situations, we recommend Falcon SSG and SSG-RP UPS with conformal coating for the electronics and powder coating for the chassis. This combination provides a layer of protection against airborne contaminants.
