Why Choose Lithium (LiFePO4) Batteries for an SSG Industrial UPS: The Advantages

Falcon’s LiFePO4 lithium battery option for SSG Industrial UPS offers many advantages over lead-acid batteries. LiFePO4 offers better service life, longer runtimes, lighter weight and can take up less space. Having the ability to save valuable space, specifically inside a network equipment rack or in our NEMA 3R enclosures, can be very important when selecting a UPS. We will provide a couple of examples of the LiFePO4 advantage below.
A standard SSG1.5KRM (1.5kVA) UPS with lead acid batteries requires 2 rack units of space and provides 6 minutes of backup time at 100% load.
For comparison, the same UPS with our LiFePO4 option provides 20 minutes of runtime while also reducing the UPS weight by 25%. In this basic example we provide reduced weight and over 3 times the backup time for the same UPS. This can be a significant advantage for critical applications.
Let’s say an application requires one hour of runtime on the same SSG1.5KRM UPS. This requires 3 extended battery banks, in addition to the UPS nearing 270lbs and using 8 rack units of space. This same requirement with our LiFePO4 option requires only one extended battery bank, weighs 90lbs and needs 4 rack units of space. This space and weight saving advantage can be important for network equipment racks and outdoor NEMA 3R enclosures. It significantly reduces the overall footprint for a critical application.
