Elements of an Industrial UPS

There are many factors to consider when selecting the right UPS for your application. Certain features may seem attractive but may not play a significant role in overall reliability throughout the life of the UPS. Falcon’s SSG, SSG-RP Industrial UPSs are capable of providing reliable service life in high temperature industrial environments. We focus on three critical elements to achieve longevity: components, batteries, and environmental protection.
UPS topologies are well known, however the grade of components used are not typically discussed. Falcon’s Industrial-grade UPSs use high-grade critical components capable of withstanding higher than typical temperature ranges. These component types along with proper safety margin specifications yield reliable operation and long service life even in high / low temperature environments.
Battery selection is a key element for any UPS type. This is especially true for a high temperature Industrial UPS. Many batteries offer a basic service life of 5 years at 25°C which is reduced by 50% for every 10°C rise in temperature. Falcon has selected a battery with a 10 to 12-year service life at 25°C and 4 years at 50°C, thereby providing significant service life for a wider range of temperatures critical in industrial applications.
We understand that temperature is not the only factor in an industrial environment that can be problematic, which is why we offer a layer of protection for our UPS. Dirt, dust, debris, or moisture can lead to premature failures if not protected. Falcon offers conformal coating for electronic components in the UPS and a powder coated chassis for added protection against the environment. The pairing of conformal coating and powder coating provides a robust layer of protection further extending the life of the UPS.
